The Twilight Hour of Lord Shiva
Long ago, during the Samudra Manthan (churning of the cosmic ocean), a deadly poison called Halahala emerged, threatening to destroy all of creation. The Devas and Asuras were terrified—no one could contain this destructive force. In that moment of crisis, Lord Shiva, the compassionate protector, came forward.
With infinite courage, Shiva consumed the poison to save the universe. Goddess Parvati, seeing the danger, immediately held His throat to prevent the poison from descending. The poison turned His throat blue, giving Him the name Neelakantha (the blue-throated one). This supreme sacrifice happened during the Pradosham time—the twilight period between sunset and darkness.
Since that divine moment, Pradosham became the most auspicious time to worship Lord Shiva. It is said that during this twilight hour, Shiva performs His cosmic dance (Ananda Tandavam) in Mount Kailash, and the divine couple—Shiva and Parvati—are in their most gracious mood, readily blessing devotees who worship them.
Pradosham is the 3-hour period that begins 1.5 hours before sunset and extends 1.5 hours after sunset. This sacred twilight time occurs twice every lunar month:
Special Pradoshams:
🌙 Soma Pradosham (Monday) - Most auspicious
🔥 Bhowma Pradosham (Tuesday) - For courage and strength
🌟 Shani Pradosham (Saturday) - For removing Saturn's adverse effects
Worshipping during Pradosham absolves past karmic debts and purifies the soul.
Brings mental peace, family harmony, and material prosperity.
Shiva's grace shields devotees from negative energies and obstacles.
Guides the soul towards moksha (liberation) through divine connection.
Every Pradosham, our Samithi organizes a sacred worship at the Vidya Mandir Ganapathi Temple within Estancia. We are blessed to have Vedic scholars from Athur Chaturveda Patashala who perform the rituals with authentic Vedic chanting. The atmosphere resonates with the divine vibrations of Rudram, Chamakam, and Shiva stotrams.
Devotees gather, offer prayers, and receive prasadam. It's a beautiful community experience where young and old come together, connecting with our ancient traditions in modern times.

Lord Ganesha's Day to Remove All Obstacles
Once upon a time, there lived a devoted king named Chandrasen who ruled the kingdom of Manipur. Despite being a righteous ruler, misfortune struck his life one after another—his kingdom faced disasters, his wealth diminished, and sorrow filled his palace. Desperate for a solution, the king consulted a wise sage.
The sage revealed that the king was suffering due to past karmic debts and recommended observing the Sankatahara Chaturthi Vratham—a sacred fast dedicated to Lord Ganesha, performed on the Chaturthi (4th day) of the waning moon (Krishna Paksha) every month.
With unwavering faith, King Chandrasen began observing the vratham diligently. He fasted, performed abhishekam to Ganesha with devotion, and chanted the Sankashta Nashana Ganesha Stotram. Miraculously, within a few months, all his troubles vanished—Sankata (difficulties) were hara (removed). His kingdom flourished again, and his life was filled with prosperity and happiness.
The Promise: Since then, Lord Ganesha blessed this day with a divine pledge—anyone who observes Sankatahara Chaturthi with sincere devotion will have their obstacles removed, difficulties erased, and wishes fulfilled.
Sankatahara Chaturthi falls on the 4th day of the Krishna Paksha (waning phase of the moon) every month. The term breaks down beautifully:
Thus, Sankatahara Chaturthi literally means "the fourth day that removes all difficulties."
🎯 When to Observe:
🗓️ Every month on Krishna Paksha Chaturthi (4th day after full moon)
🌟 Angaraka Sankatahara (falling on Tuesday) is considered the most powerful
🙏 Fasting and worship ideally done until moonrise, followed by prasadam

1. Morning: Wake up early, take a bath, and sanctify yourself
2. Sankalpam: Take a vow (sankalpam) to observe the fast with full devotion
3. Fasting: Observe complete fast or consume only fruits (as per capacity)
4. Worship: Perform Ganesha pooja with flowers, modak (his favorite), durva grass
5. Chanting: Recite Ganapathi Atharvashirsha, Ganesha Ashtottaram, or Sankatahara Stotram
6. Moonrise: Break the fast only after sighting the moon in the evening
7. Prasadam: Offer and consume prasadam (especially modak or sweet pongal)
On every Sankatahara Chaturthi, our Samithi conducts a special Ganapathi Homam and Abhishekam at the Vidya Mandir Ganapathi Temple. Families gather to participate in the sacred rituals, and children especially love offering modaks and receiving Ganesha's blessings.
The pooja includes Vedic chanting, 108 names of Ganesha, and distribution of prasadam to all devotees. It's a powerful community practice where we collectively pray for the removal of obstacles from our lives and the prosperity of every household in Estancia.
